Throughout February and March, Nature Seychelles’ Reef Rescuers team have been hard at work surveying the project sites around Cousin Island Special Reserve, a really important part of the coral reef restoration process. The aim of the large-scale assessment was to quantify the effects of the 2016 bleaching event and to assess the current status of the project, 7 years on from its inception.

The‘2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development’ will require a new culture of “shared responsibility,” described by the UN Secretary-General as based on agreed universal norms, global commitments, shared rules and evidence, collective action, and benchmarking for progress.

A new way to walk

The People 2/10/2014:  When addressing the UN General Assembly last week, President Barrack Obama remarked “Seychelles President James Michel said it was up to the countries that burn the most coal, oil and gas to do the most. If they don’t do something, the Earth will not survive and that will be the end of us all, Michel said”

Recent emotive statements by politicians vying for the post of President in both the United States and Seychelles made me realize that no matter how different the Presidential races may be between these two countries, there are indeed some important similarities.

Designated authority to be put into place soon

Seychelles Nation, Tuesday, 9th February 2016: A designated authority is to be put into place soon as the technical committee of the Seychelles-Mauritius joint commission on the Extended Continental Shelf (ECS) meets for the 12th time since 2002.

The Blue Economy is being heralded as an innovative agenda for setting the pace towards a new Seychelles. As a new development concept, the Blue Economy needs to be unpacked. We need to know what’s under its hood, how it works and how to fuel it.

Seychelles is one of the first countries to support the Fisheries Transparency Initiative (FiTI), a process aimed at enhancing responsible and sustainable fisheries through transparency.
