Coral nursery and curious fish
As a freshly graduated and passionate marine biologist, being offered an opportunity to volunteer with Nature Seychelles is my first step to building a career in coral reef restoration. As a volunteer, I’m gaining lots of experience in different aspects of reef restoration, from working on the nursery to monitoring the resilience of the reef. My favourite aspect of this role has to be the batfish!
Volunteering under the sea
A Report from Nature Seychelles’ International Volunteer Program
I arrived on Praslin and was met by two volunteers who showed me to the dorms at Nature Seychelles’ Island Conservation Centre and who helped me settle in. I then met Nature Seychelles’ Reef Rescuers team the next day - Louise and Austin.
What a great start to the week
This morning at 830 am our International Volunteers working on Cousin Island Special Reserve performed the excavation of the nest 519 which was laid just one day before the new year. On Saturday night we encountered adorable baby turtles just close to the volunteers' house, which were a bit confused by the house’s light. Today during the excavation all the eggs that were pre-counted have been found together with a wonderful surviving hatchling.
